Some shooting modes do not allow for a flash. If you are shooting on manual mode, click on the "lightning bolt" button on the left side of the front of the camera to open the flash compartment.

You should try transferring all your photos onto your computer and then delete everything on the memory card. If your memory card is too full, your camera may be taking a while to process all the photos stored. Hope this helps!
