No, but if your goal is to completely remove the vibration, it's easiest just to cut the wire. If you're going to cut the whole shaft, that's a much more difficult snip to have to do. The point about filing some of it is to just remove some of the weight, not all of it, which will significantly soften the vibration effect rather than totally remove it. If your goal is to totally remove it, then it's easier just to cut the wire.
Not necessarily, but having both wires loose increases the risk of shorting out, so make sure the wires are secured enough so the metal of the wire cannot touch anything.
I do not have a video of it, I no longer have access to the light box to take additional photos, but hope to get a replacement to get some additional photos to make the process more clear. This is why step 4 does have that warning about not pulling the wires directly.
There is a connector, it's not soldered. It's the exact same part and connector is the official joycon batteries.
Fascinating read! Thank you for your documentation!
Very curious what the content of that QR Code is, can't quite get enough detail to scan it through the photo.
The note about the different seams is very helpful! Thank you for including this!
What's a good temperature to set to hotplate to for a repair like this?
Important note! In this step the 3mm screws are highlighted in red, instead of orange like the rest of the steps, don’t make the same mistake I did and not catch that!
Anyone know where I can get a replacement to this thermally conducting tape? Or some alternative to it? It tore right off without any hope of reusing the bit that was attached to the battery and now my phone is overheating constantly after doing this repair.
