When I reinstall this assembly on the new (ifixit) screen, once all the sensors are in their holes and you fold the speaker back over, the screw holes don't line up, OR the speaker doesn't fit snugly. You can move the speaker so its no longer snug, and the screw holes line up. Is there a trick to this?
I got to this point thinking/hoping I could eek by with a Y1 orY0 or even a PH000 driver but no such luck. The Y000 is in fact necessary. Finishing this repair will have to wait for now.
ALSO thanks Apple, there is ABSOLUTELY no reason AT. ALL. to use so many random, oddball screw heads, BUT to make self repairs more difficult and expensive. A real F-U to the consumer!
The annoying thing here is that there IS ROOM, apple easily could have used normal T6 screws for this. There is NO reason to use P2 except solely to make this difficult. That is the only reason.
Note: It's T5, not T4. The T4s are for the silver covers but those are NOT what you are removing in this step, it's the black screws screwing the board in itself.
The tool list at the top says you need a TR8, but I'm only seeing T8 screws in the actual steps. Are there any TR8s or do you only need a T8?
Well the tape may not supposed to be able to separate but with gentle force, my tape just pulled right off leaving the connector still attached.
This is the exact same process as the battery removable for the mid-2014 MacBook Pro, they even used all of the same photos exactly. Yet the 2013 is rated a "Very Difficult" repair while the 2014 is rated as a "Difficult" repair. What's up with that?
I made the mistake of powering the phone on once the new battery was connected to make sure it was working, before I put the screen back on. Now my home button doesn’t work, even after two hard resets. Anyone know how I can get it working again? Note I didn’t disconnect the screen or taptic engine or anything else. I just left the screen hinged 90°, the only connector I touched was the battery connector.
So this is it. You don’t have to go any further removing the screen. You can replace the battery right from this point.
The screw and clip came un done and i don’t know how any of you managed to get that laughably small clip and screw back together. After hours of trying, I gave up. It’s not worth this much hassle just to fix up an old iphone. You’d have to be a &&^&^$^ robot to be able to put a screw that tiny through a loop, force it into a clip, then line it up with a screw hole. All without using your fingers because your fingers are 500x the size of the head of the screw. I wish I didn’t just waste money buying a new screen and battery for this old phone.
