For me the updates always fail, when pressing the button to restart ("Optimizing apps" works). The workaround I found is to go through the update process and before the failing step restart via the normal reboot option (long press power button). Only after that mid process reboot, pressing the restart/reboot button of the Update menu works. Then it reboots again while installing the update.
