Hi Terry, It's likely that the motor is over worked due to the added torque it has to overcome when pressed down, that could result in it cutting off power to protect the motor. It's warned in the manual to not put more than light pressure on the sander:

Hi Bobbi It sounds like any of the following (1) loose tolerances or ware on the plastic guides holding it in place (2) loose release button (3) something it runs over pulls on the dust box, and removes it Check if the fit of the dust box has become looser over time, and if there is a part of the floor that's unlevel and could catch the box, disconnecting it. If so, consider using a small layer of tape to add some thickness to the mounting points to better hold it in place

It would be worth testing the other functions on some references, IE: will a 100 ome resistor measure at around 100 ome will a 5v line measure at 5v If other functions seem about right, you may only need to replace the buzzer inside the meter, so it will beep again. If not possible for whatever reason, I do not recommend using Windows XP on the internet. If somehow you have this 2007 laptop running a newer version of windows, you may not be able to get drivers for Windows 10 / 11, and might want to try running a Linux OS instead.
