I’m Jamie/ Jam/ Jaime and I work as a member of the shipping team at iFixit in San Luis Obispo. I believe repair is vital to all aspects of life including soil regeneration, slow food, mending relationships, and reutilization of finite resources. I see it as a creative challenge to acquire new skills and deepen our roots in the ecosystem of knowledge.
During a capstone lecture toward a Software Engineering degree at Cal Poly, Kyle introduced me to the idea of right to repair. Since then, iFixit has opened my eyes to the the plethora of instances where reutilization of resources is often better than the latest invention.
A recent project I learned A TON on was a van conversion. (I know, I’m such a millenial.) For three months, I spent my days building a home. Not only did I learn how to navigate home depot’s screw repository, I also learned that even though a bolt head might snap off an expensive battery, you can get the shank out with a few neat skills. Outside of iFixit, I spend my time cooking, gardening, rock climbing, and practicing yoga.
