You may want to try using Isopropyl Alcohol and an old tooth brush to lightly clean the button area. Just dip the brush in the alcohol, shake off excess, and then clean in the button area. Make sure you get the bristles in the sides of the buttons. If you are still having issues, you may want to consider taking the phone apart to clean the button some more.

Cory, Just to sum it up, if you were to order a 6th Generation logic board and install it in your iPod 5th generation, it will not work. - The models use two different LCD screens. In addition, the ribbon and connectors our shifted sideways by millimeters. - The clickwheel circuitry are different and can't be interchanged. - The midframe that supports the LCD and logic board is different. The 6th gen has a deeper recess in it's frame. This will hender the click wheel buttons almost unusable. It is possible to adhere something on the logic board to compensate for the added depth, but it can be a paid in the butt to do. I hope that this helps.

Ikvee, Unfortunately, just throwing a blob or two of solder wick on there wouldn't work. you would need to solder each individual pin down precisely. Thats 10 points, to be exact. If you just throw a blob on there, then there will be shorting due to all the contacts sharing the same point of conduction. The easier thing to do is to just purchase a new logic board for your device. Unfortunately it looks like iFixit is out of stock (4th Gen Logic Board), but I do know that Rapid Repair has them in stock (4th Gen Logic Board). Assuming the unit is still open, you will just need to unplug the LCD, Battery, and click wheel ribbons and then remove the 6 screws to get your board out. I hope that this helps.

Craft, Sometimes the black foam around the LCD screen's edge can rub against the inside and keep it from sliding all the way in. I usually remove it when reassembling an iPod as it has no real value. Also, as you slide the board back in, try and angel it so you have the boards bottom as far back as possible to avoid catching on the click wheel assembly in the shell.

The drive laser may be getting weak. Luckily you can disassemble the unit and adjust the strength. You need to be careful, as the tolerable values vary based on what type of drive you have. What XBox 360 do you have and what kind of drive is installed?

Sounds like you have a bad headphone jack. You could replace the jack yourself, but SPOILER ALERT it requires soldering. If you're not too comfortable with soldering, the boards are usually pretty cheap and normally come with the headphone jack (at least the one's that I have seen). For a bonus, you could even purchase a larger capacity board. At any rate, either route would solve your problem.

There are screens available from various venues, although most of the reputable shops I know of are having a hard time getting them as new/OEM. The installation sucks on them though, as you have to remove the logic board in order to get to the connector on the back of it.

Jeff, Does the switch feel like it still has it's tactile resistance (i.e. does it still feel like it clicks when you toggle it). If there is no click feeling when you toggle the switch, the switch may have been bumped out out alignment with the circuitry. If the click sensation is there still, you will need to open it up and see if the ribbon came out of the connector inside. Worse case is that the fall damaged the logic board itself, but that is a slim chance. Check it out and let me know if you need any more help.

Unfortunately, this is not possible. The two units are completely different, inside and out. You would have to literally rebuild the board to make it fit. Sorry.

I agree with old turkey. There are a few different ZIF cables used in the iPod Video and Classic, and for the most part all of them are interchangeable without any consequence. The only exception is one particular hard drive for the Classic that slips my mind, but it uses a very unique cable and that cable won't even properly fit in the other drives. I would say to see if you can get your iPod into diagnostics mode and then go to IO > HARD DRIVE > HD SMART DATA and see how many reallocs and pendings you have. This test refers to the sectors, and you want to hope for a 0 result for each. The higher the number, the more damaged or bad sectors you have.
