A quick search on your words eventually led me to the following suggestion (below that is the link to the original forum that seems to be related to your topic): Reset the hardware PMU by pressing the small button near the PRAM battery ONCE briefly. If you're not sure that you pressed it, don't press it again until ~15 seconds have elapsed. Sounds like an authentication problem. Double check your settings. Depending on where you are attempting to connect for e-mail, they may have a suggestion for their SMTP Authentication requirements.
