Just wanted to give you an update: I swapped the Magsafe port and board and everything is working fine now. Cheap fix, so if you have this problem try swapping the Magsafe board first.
Meer informatieTry booting from a Mac OSX install disk and see if the computer boots to the installer. I'm thinking that the hard drive finally gave out - could have been caused by the drop. Worst comes to worst, your hard drive is dead and you can put in a nice fast SSD.
Meer informatieThe only consequence of using a SATA III drive in a computer with a slower SATA bus is that you are limiting the top speeds of the SSD. It shouldn't be crashing your computer. in fact, SATA I SSDs are hard to come by nowadays since few people want to buy such archaic technology. I'm interested as to why you installed the SSD in the optical drive slot - if i remember correctly, some Macbook Pros have a little trouble with SSDs in the optical drive SATA port. If you have a mechanical hard drive in the hard drive slot, try swapping them and seeing what happens. If it still crashes, your problem isn't using a SATA III drive in a SATA I slot.
Meer informatieYour iMac has a SATA II (3Gb/s) bus for the hard drive slot. The 840EVO supports up to SATA III (6Gb/s). In short, you won't be able to truly use the SSD to its fullest potential. That being said, installing the SSD in the iMac will still make a very noticeable increase in speed and responsiveness.
Meer informatieThe 1.33ghz iBook G4 has one memory slot, capable of holding up to a 1GB RAM chip. You can access this slot by pulling down on the tabs on the right of the esc key and to the left of the eject key, and then pulling up. If the keyboard doesn't pop up, turn the slit next to the num lock key 180 degrees. Once you pull up on the keyboard, set it on the palm rest area upside down and follow the instructions printed on the metal. (Remove the four screws).
Meer informatieWell, your phone has gotten liquid damage, and you have let it dry out already. There really is nothing *normal* you can do. UNLESS, if you really want your data back, try this: Before I start, I don't guarantee that your phone will work after this. Don't come trying to kill me if it doesn't. You have to take a chance on everything. I have done this with my friend's iPhone 4 that took a swim in seawater and had heavy corrosion, and he is still using that same phone 6 months later with no problem. 1. Get yourself some deionized/water without solutes. Make sure your phone doesn't have any power at all. Remove the sim card and sim card tray, take off the back cover, and submerge the phone in the deionized water for about 1 hour. Think of this as a pre-wash, to remove all gunk that got in from the liquid. 2. Get a bottle of 99% isopropyl alcohol. NINETY-NINE PERCENT ONLY! A 16oz bottle should do. Remove the phone from the deionized water, get a Glad tub with a lid. Put the phone without sim card or back cover...
Meer informatieSince you say that an external monitor works fine, there is no problem with your graphics card. This narrows it down to either the display or the display data cable. I would recommend changing the cable first, as it costs quite a bit less. Here is a site that sells it: link. The picture on your screen actually reminds me of the TiBook G4 displays. The hinges would break, crush the display data cables, and cause the display to show random vertical stripes. If that doesn't work, then change the display.
Meer informatieEither you can get bluetooth headphones/speakers like Dan recommended, or you can attach a USB audio adapter to your computer. Before you buy one, make sure it works with OSX. For example, the Griffin iMic works for the Mac: link. That will get your a 3.5mm headphone jack and a line in input too.
Meer informatieTry this first: 1. Try resetting the SMC by unplugging the power cord, waiting 15 seconds, plugging the cord back in, waiting 5 seconds, and then pressing the power button. If this step doesn't work, then you really need to change the logic board. Or, if you bought the computer with an American Express, they'll double your warranty up to 5 years. My Macbook Pro just gave up the ghost and they are taking care of it. Never hurts to try!
Meer informatieI don't think a dead hard drive is a good reason to replace a computer. Since your iMac is about 6+ years old, I am guessing it is one of the white plastic LCD ones. I have taken a couple apart, and it doesn't take more than 45 minutes to have it fully replaced. REMEMBER TO BACK UP YOUR DATA NOW SO YOU DON'T LOSE EVERYTHING WHEN YOUR HARD DRIVE ACTUALLY DIES! Hard drives for your iMac are rather inexpensive nowadays, and I believe your iMac uses a 3.5" SATA hard drive. Please check your system profiler and make sure. Here is a link to a picture that shows you the difference (PATA is on top, SATA is the one of the bottom). A nice SATA hard drive costs about $50-120 nowadays. Actually, this is a nice one. Decent capacity, fast speed. Should keep your iMac running for many more years!
