In most cases the laser can be changed an will solve problem. A lot of videos out there that show how it is done. Not overly difficult. Just take your time. You can order the new laser on eBay for around 10 bucks. Just make sure of the drive make. Most of them for the slim 360 were the lite on drives, however they did do a few hitachi drives. Also note that the lasers are shipped with an anti static solder bead that has to be removed before installation Hope this helps

Depends on the system, but in most cases the system need disassembled to access the drive. Then the drive needs take apart as well to make none of the pieces have gotten jammed. There are A lot of tutorials on this. Hope it helps
