Recaffinating My 2010 13" MacBook Pro

After four years of abuse the battery in my 13" MBP transformed the MBP from a laptop into a desktop computer by holding its charge for 30 minutes on a good day and requiring the MBP to be attached to external power constantly. So it was time to replace the battery. Since the battery on a 2010 MBP is considered a non-user replaceable part by Apple I thought it was going to mean a trip to the Apple store to have them replace it with the associate time, hassle, and cost. I have been under the hood of my MBP twice before to replace the HD with an SSD and the optical drive with a spinning HD so I searched the internet to see if the battery swap was something I could perform. On various forums people stated it was doable. The iFixit guide was straight forward and they had the replacement battery and the tri-wing screwdriver so I was set.

Mijn oplossing

The battery and screwdriver arrived in 2 days. The battery replacement was super simple/straightforward. Following the iFixit Guide, from the first screw out to the last screw back in I was done in 10 minutes and had a MBP with 5763 mg of caffeine uuhhh mAh.

Mijn advies

If you have previously self-upgraded your MacBook Pro don't hesitate to replace battery yourself. Had I realized battery replacement was so easy I would have done it sooner. If this is your first do it yourself project, do not doubt yourself. This is a straight forward project with minimal opportunity to harm your MBP.
