iPhone 4S no Sound through speaker

Mijn probleem

The phone went for a swim about a year ago. Progressively the speaker had become worse and then finally quit working. Headphone jack worked fine but no speaker to hear the phone ring.

Mijn oplossing

Easy repair. took 10 minutes following iFixit online guide.

Mijn advies

Don't mess around with others who guide you to do software restores etc... When your speaker is working then gradually quits or even just outright quits, REPLACE the speaker. The repair was fast and easy, and now, my phone works good as new.

Replaced the Pentalobe screws while I was at it also.

I dissected the old speaker module. Inside is an acoustical piece of foam. When it became wet, it partially dissolved into a gooey ooze and made its way to rest upon the speaker membrane. It added to the mass of the membrane wherein the speaker coil no longer had the strength to move the membrane. Thus the failure.
