Those tiny little screws are not Phillips!

Mijn probleem

My son had destroyed the front panel of his iPhone. The glass was badly cracked, the front camera was missing (how?), and the touch digitizer finally gave up the ghost.

Mijn oplossing

The repair went quickly, following the iFixit guides. They are great!

Mijn advies

Make sure you have tweezers to handle the tiny screws. They also like to "jump" out of the tweezers grip. I performed the repair in a large baking pan, with a silicon mat to insulate the phone from the metal pan. This was helpful in making sure that any dropped screws were not lost. If you lose a screw, you may be able to replace it with one of the screws from the original failed display. There are a number of them on the display that might be recyclable.

Also, the internal screws do not appear to be Phillips screws. I had ordered the high-end iFixit #000 Phillips screwdriver to do the repair, but both this screwdriver as well as the screwdriver supplied with the iFixit replacement display slipped on the internal screw heads. Fortunately, I had some micro JIS screwdrivers (had to special-order them from Amazon for a different issue) and these worked flawlessly. Make sure you have these on hand to avoid a frustrating experience.
