Saving my Son's PS3 for my Granddaughter

My Son's PS3 had multiple problems. First the power supply would not provide any 12V output so I replace that. The unit would then power on but the DVD would not respond at all, the motors would not even attempt to run. My Son informed me that his 9 year old Son had tried to force a disc into the unit and most likely damaged the DVD player. I ordered a new DVD player and replaced it. Now the DVD would attempt to load a disc but then the PS3 would go to the YLOD.

Mijn oplossing

Google led me to the IFIXIT website where I found that a solder reflow under the CPU's on the motherboard most likely would cure this. I am a retired electronics Broadcast Television Service Engineer but did not have the parts or heat gun to complete the job. I ordered the kit and followed the step by step instructions in their repair guide and completed the successful repair in about 35 minutes (most of this was cooling time). Thank you IFIXIT for having the parts and tools needed at a reasonable price and shipping the kit quickly. My Son and Granddaughter are now delighted that I was able to resurrect the PS3.

Mijn advies

For those who aren't repair professionals try using colored highlighter pens to mark the heads of the screws and around the hole they go into. All screws of the same type and size with one color and each different type and size with a different color. This will help greatly with reassembly and help eliminate confusion about where each screw came from.
