Mijn probleem
I used my ps3 constantly for all media and video game purposes for about 3 years and it just finally gave out with the Yellow light of death. I ended up replacing it already, but I needed to get the data from the old one and the only way to do that would be to fix it and transfer it.
Mijn oplossing
Fixing the YLOD was easy. This was the 3rd time I had to fix it since it happened to my cousin twice. It went pretty smooth. it took about 20 minutes to tear the ps3 down to the motherboard. About 5 minutes to blow the dust out of everything. About 5 minutes with the heat gun and applying thermal paste. It took roughly 25 minutes to put the ps3 back together. The unit works fine now, but I know I only have about 2 months of continuous use before it dies again.
Mijn advies
Buy the heat gun from Harbor Freight. It's cheaper. Also look for a coupon code for iFixit, there's usually a $5 off code somewhere on the web. Also, try not to mess with the bluray drive. Especially if there is a disc stuck in it. Fix the ps3 and just eject the disc instead of opening the drive. I spent 3 hours trying to get the drive working correctly after taking the disc out.
