Mijn probleem

I discovered this iPhone 5 on a public road, it looked like it had been run over by a car. The screen was shattered, but all the other parts seemed to work, so I decided to repair it.

Mijn oplossing

The repair was pretty straightforward. I used loops of tape to keep the screws organized after they were removed. The most difficult part was the initial opening with the suction cup; it didn't work because the screen was so shattered. I found a solution though, see the advice portion. Also, there is a clear plastic standoff for the front camera that has to be removed from the old screen and reinstalled, don't miss it.

Mijn advies

If you are replacing a shattered screen that the suction cup isn't working on, try using a small dot of 5 minute epoxy. Put the epoxy above the home button, where you will use the suction cup. Using an envelope or an index card, smooth the epoxy out over an area large enough for the suction cup, being careful not to get any on the home button or the screen/case seam. If you try again when the expoy is almost hard, and a tiny bit tacky, the suction cup should work wonders.
