I went a bit trigger-happy late last night and shot a bunch of photos of the Mac 128K logic board. Hilarity (and wallpapers) ensued. Click on each one to get the full-res, 2560×1440 version.
Sadly, my “The Macintosh” the I bought in May 1984 (before there were different kinds of Macintoshes!) was given to a student in about 2005, replaced by a Mac IIFX (in the immortal description of actor Harry Anderson, that stood for “Too f***ing expensive!”). My The Macintosh was not so pretty inside when I sold it, because early on (WELL before iFixit!) I upgraded it to 512K of RAM by desoldering/removing/replacing the RAM chips. It worked just fine immediately after, and for many years to come. I do regret giving away my first ‘toaster’, with its 1-bit-per-pixel screen, no hard drive (my external 3.5” floppy was the height of luxury. One floppy for MacOS, and a DIFFERENT floppy for each app, Write & Paint, and the files I created with it! Upgrading it was a very proud moment for this ‘75 Cal Poly ME (‘tin bender’ to you tweets) grad!
