Replacing a string on an instrument can be scary. You always want to make sure that you don’t break the replacement! In this guide, we will show you how to remove and replace the string on a cello. These steps would also work perfectly for another orchestral string instrument, such as a violin, viola, or bass. Simply follow the steps and be back to playing your instrument in less than ten minutes!
Twist the peg in the opposite direction that you did before. If the cello is facing towards you, then twist it away from you.
Make sure that you do not twist too much! Pluck the string while twisting to make sure the string is not too loose or too tight. You don't want to snap it!
When tightening the peg, make sure that the string is still aligned with the indent on the bridge.
