Upgrading MacBook Pro myself?

I am inquiring if the data doubler that was available for late 2011 MacBook Pro can be installed on the newest 15" MacBook Pro (not the Retna dispay)?

I am considering buying new and passing the 2011 to my son to use at school, but I want to replace HD with SSD and optical drive with the one shipped. I also want to upgrade Ram, but prefer not to do any soldering.

Can it be done easily?

Thanks for your help.

This is a question for OWC - they state there are limitations (read the bottom of the page) as to which '011 models it will work with.

As to upgrading RAM AFAIK only the new '012 machines have soldered memory.

If you want 16 GBs you have to get it at time of purchase directly from Apple- it's a custom order.'
