The March 2015 update of Apple's 13" MacBook Pro Retina Display, model A1502, features fifth-generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors and introduces the Force Touch trackpad.

'Some' non responsive keys GHJKL...

CAN a keyboard become 'faulty / some non responsive keys' during shipping process? It was very securely wrapped with a reliable service. Personally I cannot see this happening as the cable is difficult to come lose when it is screwed down inside (2015 Retina). TP / Power button are OK and they were able to 'login'. Item was not visibly damaged. Packaging was fully intact and no evidence of being squashed or anything etc. or was this 'sold' defective in the 1st place which is what I have suggested to the logistics company. @danj

@livfe was it pre-owned or new?

@ahmadawick An 11 year old laptop cannot be new / pre-owned, likely sold because of this problem. But that is not the question.

Highly unlikely shipping caused it — especially with intact packaging and no physical damage. A screwed-down cable rarely shifts in transit. More probable it was sold faulty or had a pre-existing issue. Push back on the seller, not the courier. Request a refund or replacement — you have a solid case.

Yes this is exactly my thought also, a sudden jolt wouldn't be a likely cause for some keys not to function. Dirt, dust or liquid would cause this. If and when the unit arrived here for a replacement KB I will find some clues.

If this was a 2016 or newer I would have suspected crumbs or sand shifted jamming the keys travels.

If the keys are responding to touch just not registering and yet an external keyboard is working without difficulties the issue is within the keyboard and likely the ribbon cable or its connector has been damaged. That's clearly not a functional system from the start and if stated as such deceptive.

2015 Retina. I believe this was defective before shipping and not stated in the advert.

@livfe - for sure! If they made the claim it was working.

@danj They included a short video of the keys not working, The U key was also affected as it was 'stuck' repeating the U character. The only thing that comes to mind is the battery may have shifted and with the flex cable attached to the battery it may have created the issue, until it is opened up and checked we cannot confirm this, but the batteries are stuck down tight and this would be unlikely unless the battery was replaced at some point in the past and has come lose.

door

@livfe - Liquid spill into the switch matrix damaging the switch surfaces shorting it out or preventing the switch contact to activate.

door

@danj Could be old age, misuse, bashing the keys to hard, dirt, dust, and anything else.... it happens... I don't think water was the cause here but it also could be.
