Why is the home button not working after reassembly?

I recently changed the battery on my iPhone 5s and the battery works well, however there is now another issue. I installed the battery without the adhesive to check if it charges and consumers power normally, and when I was satisfied with how it operated I removed the battery and installed the adhesive along with the battery. After that, the home button stopped working. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the home button flex cable several times as well as disconnecting and reconnecting the battery connector and then connecting the home button flex cable but that didn't work either. I'm wondering if I caused a slight tear or damage to the home button flex cable that's causing this issue. Here are some pictures to show what it currently looks like:

If the issue is the flex cable, is there anything that can be done to repair it or do I have to get another home button assembly to restore home button functionality?

Gekozen oplossing

It turns out that the flex cable was damaged and I was able to resolve the issue by replacing the home button, thanks to iFixit's repair guide and a Youtube video.
