Replacement battery not charging, 2 chargers tried.

I recently dug out my old mbp, and tried to get it working again, I've gave it a good clean, fixed very lose hinges and have got it booting and fully working again.

Except for the battery. I brought a replacement iFixit Battery in mid December, and noticed then that it wouldn't charge, but soon after the screen wasn't turning on (The screen just worked when tried again later, so I don't think its connected but just in case) so I shelved the project over xmas. I picked it back up ~2 weeks ago, and got back to the battery problem.

I've reset PRAM and SMC to no avail. The system works on battery power, and without the battery installed. Thinking it was my chargers fault, I brought another 60w MagSafe charger, but that too didn't charge the battery. Both chargers showed a green light as if the battery was at 100%, but in the system information sheet it knew the batteries weren't fully charged.

With original charger,

With newly brought charger,

I noticed coconut battery said the charger wasn't connected, so I reconnected it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Update #1

Kept the charger plugged in for 5 hours, but it hasn't charged. The indicator light was green all throughout.

How long did you wait for the charger to charge the battery?

Looking at CoconutBattery 1st snap it does appear the battery IS charging! You do need to give it a good 5~8 hrs to fully charge as the battery is so low.

The battery charge is gated by the thermal limit of the battery so the charging won’t be at the full rate throughout the charge. So far the battery is not that warm so it doesn’t appear to be charging a long time. In addition, it does take CoconutBattery a bit of time to be updated by the OS and the OS updated by SMC so don’t be to quick jumping you have a problem.

So I would shut the system down and let the system sit a good five hours under charge at which time the MagSafe cord LED should change from Amber to Green. Then take a fresh snapshot of CoconutBattery and post it here so we can see where you are.

Thanks for the help, and I've updated with the new coconut battery info. Unfortunately we're still in the same place.

@harmonia - Not good! 😖

It appears the charging logic within the logic board is not working correctly. There is a set of MOSFETs which switch the inbound power into the battery and logic board one of these looks like has failed so the charger power is not getting to the battery directly. This will require deeper diagnostics at the circuit level.

do you have a repair shop with Mac experience near you. They should have the skills to troubleshoot this down and replace the failing MOSFET.

There might be some, but it looks like there's no other option.

Thank you for your help, I wouldn't have been able to figured that out, so I'd be trying to replace the dc input board or even the battery again.

Much appreciated!
