Can I install the new 2TB WD HDD in my MacBook Pro

Hello,

Western Digital released a couple of months ago a 2TB 2.5" portable *external* hard drive.

I was wondering if I could get that beast inside my 15" MacBook Pro (purchased February 2010).

PS: not sure if this qualifies as a *repair* question. Technically, though, it is the same as changing an internal hard drive that broke.

The main problem you may have is the height of the drive. If it is over 12.5 mm high it will be to large to fit inside the machine. To manually format it again click on go> utilities> disk utility> click on the drive itself> click on partition> set the volme scheme for one partition if you want the full capacity on a single volume> click on options> Check Apple Partition Map if you're on a G4/G5, or check GUID Partition Table if you're on an Intel-based Mac> Type the name you want in th upper-right corner> The format will be automatically set to Mac OS Extended (Journaled), which is HFS+> Click on Partition/Apply in the lower-right.

Hello,

someone measured the thickness WDBY8L0020BBK?

I also think now about how to install this drive.

I have now installed 1.5TB seagate =12.5 mm

in my MBP 17"2012 (mb386,"last 17")

Best option yet (and I have been searching the net for a long time!!!) for a 2.0TB, 12.5mm SATA II 3gb/s, 8mb cache, Internal HDD.

It's a bit slow at 5400RPM, and pricey at $400. However, it is to-date the only 2TB 12.5mm I can find that you can use as a bootable, primary drive in a MBP. That is not the case for the new WD Green drives that can only serve as a secondary drive.

Oh, by the way, I have an early 2009 MBP unibody.

Cheers!
