damaged iPhone/smashed screen, only turns on whilst on charger.

I found an iphone 4 at a music festical, back in perfect condition. front smashed up but still able to see screen clearly. phone only turns on whilst plugged into wall charger. would this be battery?

Give it back to it's owner! Reason i say this is because i recently lost my iPhone at a nightclub and someone handed it in. Very very nice of them. I'm sure they would feel very happy if you did the same ;)
