I may have figured out why my trackpad seems to be getting worse.

I am back, once again, but this time, I think I figured it out.

I was using my laptop recently, and the cat decided to sit on my legs. After a while, I started sweating, and quickly noticed that my trackpad seemed to be not as responsive.

Apparently sweat is conductive, and some things are finally starting to make sense, such as; trackpad responds better to the tip of my finger (right below the nail), then to my actual finger-pad.

One thing that doesn't make sense to me though, is that, my trackpad actually improved in its performance, but now it's back to being worse.

By this I mean, over the span of a couple weeks, the trackpad became more responsive than it had been a month ago, but I'm pretty sure that trackpads don't have the ability to magically repair themselves.

At the current moment, I am suffering greatly as I attempt to move my mouse from Point A to Point B. Unfortunately, summer is beginning, the AC in my household isn't exactly the best, and I have this wonderful thing where I don't realize I'm overheating until someone points it out. All in all, my computer is going to suffer.

My question is pretty much; What can I do to help try and protect my trackpad? Is there a way of 'repairing' the touch layer without replacing the entire trackpad. (I am aware that this is unlikely.)

The trackpad is Capacitive Sensing so a wet finger can mess up! Try using an Apple Watch under water!

As to your problem, more likely some liquid seeped into the seam between the case and trackpad. You could pull he trackpad out and clean the case and trackpad edge and it’s surface using reagent 90% isopropyl alcohol and a ever so slightly damp micro cloth as you don’t want the alcohol to seep into the layers of the trackpad.

There is no means to replace the surface, placing anything on top reduces the sensitivity and unless it’s glass or ceramic will wear out quite quickly.
