Why does my signal change from 4g to 3g then back after 1-3hr timings

i had a redmi 8 before this note 9s and i have been getting this issue for months now. it especially affects my gaming as i use the phone as a hotspot since home wifi gets congested. it would change to 3g out of no where and cause me to dc in online matches. then it takes 2min to go back to 4g. so i always manually change to back to 4g before i take too long offline. any fixes or is it related to my 4g provider? country is uganda and provider is Airtel

Hi @manyord,

Can you try another device connected to the same service provider and see if the same problem occurs?

At least doing this will prove whether it is the provider or your Note 9s that is the problem.

Hello @jayeff so it appears to be happening on both phones so it could be my provider then? its been many months with this going on sadly

@manyord

It may be that now there are more users in your area that are connected to the same provider. As the bandwidth becomes more crowded it may be that you're dropped back to 3G just to maintain some sort of data speed.

If you know someone who lives nearby who uses a different provider, ask them if they have the same problem with their network.

This isn't uncommon actually, whenever your phone doesn't have a strong cell signal it will automatically go to whatever is below so for isntance 4g-3g whenever your phone loses the strong 4g signal it automatically drops to 3g in order to maintain connection, if the times are consistent it could be because a busy time of the day or just simply the bandwidth from gaming.

ya it could be that though i always have full bars on 4g and usually i manually change it back to 4g the moment it dips, so it ends up being full bars again. ya could just be the congestion is high in my area. rip
