Back R5 Button not consistently working

Hello Guys,

Has anyone be lucky with fixing the back R5 (or L5) Button ?

Basically, the button 16 does not consistently work:

I have opened up the controller, and it is still not working consistently when I directly press the button. I must click off the center to get it to work every time.

I am quite surprised as I barely use the controller. I hope it would be just dust, but it seems more serious.

Any leads or ideas please ?

Thanks :D

If you are pressing the switch directly and it fails to read the most likely cause is mechanical failure and a new switch will need to be soldered or swapped put I honestly forget I'd the left and right triggers on the steam controllers are modular or soldered driectly to the boars. But once the contact plates inside a switch wear out there isn't much you can do.

I'd try some isopropyl alcohol, de-oxit or bw-100 to see if the trigger starts working magically after being cleaned out property

I was not clear enough. The switch kind of works when I directly press it.

We can clearly see on the switch where the black backplate button is hitting. Using a toothpick, if I press at the same spot, it is not working unless I press hard. But I press slightly off center, it is working constantly.

I am not familiar so much with PCB & switches. Would it be wise to disassemble (get rid of the "tape") the switch to clean it with isopropyl alcohol ?
