Replaced screen - partial black portion

I replaced a screen A2337 on a Macbook Air. The screen works but there's a weird dead pert of the screen on the right side about and inch wide from the top of the screen to the bottom. I followed the correct uninstall and install directors from ifixit. Made sure the battery was disconnected when ever I tried to reseat all connectors multiple times to see if I messed anything up.

Where did you buy the display from?

Update (05/04/24)

Yeah, it probably is a low quality knock-off. Do not buy parts from that brand, or generally any in Amazon. I would probably recommend getting a screen from iFixit. Even though they may be expensive, they are high quality and reliable.

Sadly the display assembly has a problem 😢

Now where is the problem is the next question! The logic board to the displays T-CON board are not the issue! This cable carry’s the encoded screens data via eDP signaling. The ribbon cables from the T-CON to the LCD panel carry’s the raw column and raster data feeds.

To help make sense of what’s happening think how cloth is made, a weave of threads in an X and Y configuration. That’s the same with the data lines to set the discrete pixels. So… a set of lines from the T-CON to the LCD panel column feed it’s self have been damaged.

So could you have damaged the ribbon cables? Or is the damage deeper inside the assembly?

So checked the ribbon and pins and they are fine, I put the old screen back on and it wasn't present.

@wattztech - To be clear the original screen is also showing the same issue? Yet an external monitor is fine? Which ribbon cables did you check the one from the logic board?

door

On the original screen the issue is not present.
