Surface 8 Battery detected not charging

Battery not charging on a surface pro is COMMON. But I cannot find an answer to my problem. I have two chargers, both are ok both have the led light on when plugged in. Windows detects the battery but it’s at 0% and just won’t take a charg. I’ve done the usual stuff, cleaned connectors, updated software (on 120 v). Also tried wireless charging and usb port charging. Nothing works. Could a two year old battery be completely dead and ruined? The only option left is to replace the battery which is no small task.

Have you tried the Surface app and Surface Diagnostic Toolkit? It might give an overview of what might be wrong?

That was very helpful but did not yield any results. It appears the surface pro believes the battery is fully charged, according to the diagnostics toolkit, but the battery is in fact at 0%.

We got the result that the program isn't that good at diagnostics. Does it say anything about charge cycles or what 100% is based on. 100% of 5mAh is still 100%. Had a case before where 100% displayed by the device was 20% of original battery capacity. Different device however same concept.

Yes it has been through only 18 "cycles". The diagnostics Toolkit is indicating that the battery is "charged" which means fully charged. But the charge is 0%. It has 50230 original mWh and current capacity is showing only 29800 mWh but that is not 0. My new battery has arrived, so I am probably going to have to just replace the battery. From the stats above I don't think the battery is "dead" but it's stuck at 0% and won't take a charge.

@paulweisberg Sounds like an error with that board in the battery pack that gives and recieves both info and charge. The PCM/BMS board. Try changing to the new one and see if the issue is still there after changing it. If it is then it might be a deeper laying issue.

Thank you for your help on this. I plan to change out the battery this weekend. It's no small task but I have done similar before on phones.
