Won't Power on but power and disc button make sound when pressed

So whenever I press the power button it makes the chime noise. However, the console itself does not turn on. When you touch the disc drive button it makes a chime too but nothing happens. I have checked all of the USB ports and have confirmed that there are none that could be shorting. I noticed that there was some rust forming on the IR module and it looked like resistor R6G1 was damaged but even after replacing that one it still would not work. I have also tried using a different ribbon cable and RF board but still no dice.

I apologize for the inconvenience you’re facing with your Xbox 360 S. Let’s troubleshoot this issue together:

  1. Power Button Check:
    • The power button is crucial for turning on your console. If it’s malfunctioning, it can cause startup issues.
    • Before considering hardware replacement, try the following:
      • Press and hold the power button: Sometimes, a long press (about 10 seconds) can force a hard reset.
      • Check the AC adapter: Ensure it’s connected properly and providing power.
      • Inspect the power LED: Look for any signs of life (even brief flashes) when you press the power button.
  2. Alternative Power-On Methods:
    • Unfortunately, the Xbox 360 S primarily relies on the power button for startup.
    • CMOS battery removal won’t directly affect the power button functionality. It mainly resets BIOS settings.
    • If you suspect the power button, consider seeking professional repair or contacting Xbox support.
  3. Changing the Power Button:
    • Replacing the power button involves disassembling the console, which can be complex.
    • Disassembly guide:
      1. Remove the top panel: Carefully detach the top vent and release the clips.
      2. Access the RF module: It’s near the top of the keyboard area.
      3. Inspect the power ribbon: Clean both sides and ensure a secure connection.
      4. Replace the RF module: If needed, install a new one.
      5. Reassemble the console: Secure the top panel.
  4. Professional Assistance:
    • Given the intricacies of console internals, I recommend seeking professional help.
    • An authorized repair center can diagnose and fix the issue effectively.

Remember to back up your data if possible before any repair attempts. I hope your Xbox 360 S powers up smoothly soon!

I’ve provided general guidance for troubleshooting and replacing the power button. For specific details on disassembly and replacement, refer to the official Xbox support resources. If you need further assistance, consider reaching out to Xbox customer support or a certified technician.
