Fan Whine has made a return.

Hey all!

I purchased a PS5 slim as a second console for my office. Unfortunately, there is a very high pitched whine resonating from the fan when starting up a game, which progressively gets louder after playing. (The console is in open space, with no vents covered).

I have taken the panel off and can see that the fan is the NMB variant. I was wondering if anybody knows of the best place to source a replacement fan? Seeing as Sony doesn't want to know.

I have the same problem. This is the fan with the 8 little holes on the outer plastic?

That’s the one I believe. There’s a little ‘MB’ lettering printed on the silver fan next to the QR code.

I ended up taking mine back to the store today, and they replaced it with another. Now I have the issue of not being able to install any games 😩.

I had the same problem. I also returned mine and got another. The new one seems to have a different issue with the fan where it sounds like it’s either hitting something, or is off balance and wobbling, creating a chopping kind of sound, It only happens on the Home Screen though, and is inaudible unless putting my ear up to the console. It sounds fine when playing games.I also returned a regular fat model for ufo fan and crazy excessive coil whine. I’m tired of returning Sony’s poorly made junk, so I’m just going to hope what I have either continues to be fine, or that replacement fans become available at some point.

I’m in the UK and bought this for my son for Xmas. The problems you describe are identical to our console experience and we have the same NMB fan. I’m returning the console tomorrow. I cannot believe how poor this console sounds as we have had many PlayStations before and they have been fine.

Same problem with my new PS5 Slim. It has an NMB fan and makes the loud UFO noise whereas my brother's OG PS5 makes almost no noise at all. When I'm not in a game it's silent, but the second I load up a game it starts to make noise.
