Can I switch foldable screen for ordinary flat?

Is there a way to replace foldable screen with ordinary OLED display? I have this question because if it is possible many "dead" phones with broken front panel could be revived as makeshift powerful tablets and reduce waste.

What do you think about this idea, is it feasible?

Hi Nikita,

I'll give you points for reparability; those foldable screens are NOT cheap! To answer your question, though, I'd have to say yes and no.

Yes, it is theoretically feasible; a manufacturer certainly could design an OLED screen to fit on an opened Z Fold, but you would also have to figure out some mechanism to keep from being able to close the phone again or you'll just end up snapping your brand new screen in half.

In practice though, the answer is no, you can't replace it with a non-foldable screen. Besides the folding issue above, the fact is that virtually every phone made has a custom designed screen with the size, connectors and electrical interfaces made specifically for that phone and no other. The chance that someone has manufactured a screen that is the correct size for the Z Fold, has the right screen resolution, plugs and cable to connect, is zero.

Wish I could offer you better news, but in practice there's just no way it will work despite it being a great idea.
