After upper case replacement, TouchID no longer working

Followed the ifixit guide to replace the upper case (because of faulty keyboard). Everything went smoothly, installed new part and reused the original TouchID. Now, TouchID is saying there is a fingerprint limit, but cannot erase old any fingerprint. Used the terminal command in recovery mode to erase old entries (this is a T1 model) but still not working. Also have noticed that TouchID is gone when running in safe boot mode. Did anyone who performed this repair have no issues with their TouchID?

You may have damaged the ribbon cable or didn't connect the cable fully.

I was pretty careful with all the ribbon cables, but I suppose with considering. So even if the button still functions as on / off there is still potential for the data leads or something similar to fail? Man, hate to disassemble this whole thing again..
