I want to add an eSATA port

I have a 2012 iMac worth about $150 that I would like to use for updating firmware on my SSDs.

Samsung only allows "internal" SSDs to be updated meaning nothing attached to USB or even Thunderbolt (as far as I know).

It would be nice to cut a slot in the case and have an eSATA port so I can just connect them externally without having to remove the screen after each one is updated.

What cables/connectors do I need to accomplish this? The 2012 has a blade SSD and a 3.5" HDD. There must be a way to use one of those connectors for a cable that would end in eSATA.

This system only offers one SATA port. One could extend the HDD SATA port externally. There really is no need to go with an eSATA connection the raw SATA connections will be fine as long as you power down before disconnecting or connecting the drive.

You will need to install the PCIe/NVMe blade drive to run the system.
