Apple RAID card - no drivers for macOS Monterey

Hi guys,

I have Apple RAID card (Mac Pro (Early 2009) RAID Card - https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201908 ) it was OK with macOS High Sierra but after I update to macOS Monterey (with OCLP) there are no drivers for this card. Any idea how can I make it work again ?

Thanks a lot for any ideas :)

Hi mate,

First off, i'd like to point out that page doesn't exist. I can't access it.

After 1 round of google, i found that this mac pro actually doesn't support monterey. Soooooooooo, i suppose that ain't gonna work. The reason it probably can't find drivers is because you are using an unsupported mac, which inevitably means unsupported hardware. If you are hackintoshing this then you probably won't be able to find any drivers as i had not heard of this apple raid card up until this point.

Hope this helps :)

Hi mate, thanks for replay. It’s genuine Mac Pro 2010 :) and you are correct that I am using unsupported macOS (with OCLP). Link again - hopefully will work https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201908 on this link ( my card is on the fop ) says: “You can identify this card by the black color of the board. Install this card and use it in the Mac Pro (Early 2009) with Mac OS X v10.5.6 or later, the Mac Pro (Mid 2010) with Mac OS X v10.6.4 or later, or the Mac Pro (Mid 2012) with OS X Lion v10.7.3 or later.”

Huh that’s odd,

What I’m assuming has happened after that is that they have done what they always do: deprecate everything.

The iPhone 8 I daily drive is gonna loose support soon :(. Apple seems to do this a lot and I feel like this has fallen to that.

Because apple had likely gone “stuff it, we’ll add raid into the system itself (I’m absolutely not any hardware expert I’m just someone who likes this kind of stuff)”. Besides, I think apple is the most renowned for this kind of tomfoolery.

As for what you can do, if you’re enough of an advanced user you could try and get the old driver and manually add it into macOS. If not, then I honestly wouldn’t have a clue.

You do seem like an advanced user though considering you’ve come this far so I have faith :)

As you recommend, I'll try the older driver, I was just wondering if anyone has experience with this so I don't waste time. Thank you very much for your time :)

Just an update - I copied the RAID utility from macOS High Sierra and after copying it to the Monterey Application folder and restarting I can see that the RAID card is now working, unfortunately when I try to shut down the Mac it freezes and the RAID application doesn't work either. The temperature in PCIe slot 4 (slot for RAID card) and the RAID card shows a temperature of around 8O C !!! And the two HDDs in position 3 and 4 are also very hot.

@sohmengkuan sorry mate I missed your question. No it's not working. Not sure if is card issue or macOS or maybe APFS on SSD's but if you want speed up -> go with PCIe RAID card ;)
