i have a iPhone 12 mini, and the ringer will not ring. what can i do?

Hi Carolyn,
Since iPhones don't have a dedicated speaker for ringtones, they use the same speaker as when you're watching videos. So if it's a hardware problem you won't have any sound when you play a YouTube video. Do you have sound?
If you do, then it's probably an issue with a setting in your phone. Verify the position of the silent switch on the side above the volume buttons, and of course check the ringtone volume in your settings to see if its been muted.
If all else fails, you might try a full backup and restore of your phone's software to clear out any bad setting that may have come about accidentally.
If you don't have any sound when playing videos, then your speaker may have failed.
Check and see and come back and let us know what you find and we'll figure out what to do next.

I have done all you said to do. but i still can't get my phone to ring. Is there anything else I can do?

I barley have a sound from the bottom speaker.
