How to fix “Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed”?

Power on only comes up with that Setup Notice.

Then Insert Recovery Media and press any key.

Then select Boot Manager to choose a new Boot Device or to boot to Recovery Media. <ESC> gives: “No bootable Device. Please restart system.”

I assume the hard drive is ‘broken’.

It does use a blade SSD. Go here to find available replacement sticks.

Meanwhile see if you can boot from an external source if you have it.

I usually prefer Samsung or Intel SSDs when this occurs, but the "suicide bit" on the Intel SSD firmware is a deterrent for less savvy uses IMO. 512GB is cheap enough it's worth the extra cost now if you need it.

I took the pc to our local computer store and I reckon they must have used a recovery boot process to discover the hard disk was OK, but a startup boot file was corrupt.
It's being fixed for $150. Pickup this afternoon. Better than $300 quoted for replacement HDD etc.
