Can I replace the HDD with an SSD without touching the Blade?

I've upgraded a number of iMacs over the years by removing the HDD and replacing it with a 2.5" SATA SSD. I was getting ready to do so with this 2019 27" Retina 5k when I read about the blade drive attached to the logic board.

I'd prefer not to have to touch the Blade drive. If I simply replace the HDD with a SATA SSD using the same connection will everything still function normally? And will using Disk Utility to clone the existing system over to the new SSD before the physical replacement still work like it does on prior generations of iMacs? Thanks!
