Did my MacBook fry 2 chargers?

Hey,

I have a macbook air early 2015 and having some problems with the charger. About 4 months ago the charger stopped working, so i went ahead and got a new one since it was a pretty old charger anyways.

The new one worked fine, but after about 2/3 months that one stopped charging as well. Well it didn’t exactly stop charging, the light sometimes lights up on the cable and it does say its connected sometimes (although battery % does go down). This wasnt an original charger, and after asking around on here (different account forgot which one lol) it was advised to try an original apple charger.

I did, and that one did charge it. But guess what, today that original charger decided it was time for retirement and stopped charging as well. First couple of times it just randomly stopped charging and worked again if i unplug and plugged the wall mount back in, but now its officially dead.

Have done SMC, PRAM reset, charging port is clean.

Any ideas?

Edit: added coconutbattery pic. This was made when it was on the (fake) charger.

Where did you buy the charger?

There are quite a few knockoffs which are sold as OEM which will not hold up and can in fact damage your system. Make sure you are using a properly wired outlet. I have seen outlets which have the common wire swapped with the hot wire kill the charger.

If you can still get it running let’s get a view on things using this gem of an App! CoconutBattery post a snapshot of the apps main window here for us to see.

Added! I bought the fake charger off amazon and later also the original charger. Right now it sometimes does charge when completely turned off, with the fake charger.

Original chargers seems dead to me.

@diamondgamer - At this point I would open the system looking for liquid damage and/or corrosion on the logic board, I would also take the logic board out as often the back side gets the damage first.

Post a few pics of anything that looks off when you compare with this guide MacBook Air 13" Early 2015 Logic Board Replacement
