Can you replace the physical Function keys with an external touchbar?

Basically i have a macbook pro from 2017 with no touchbar, obviously its an intel cuz i cant afford apple silicon, so basically this macbook pro doesnt have the touchbar, which i really like because if offers emoji shortcuts and also offers touchid, and the thing is, i saw a keyboard replacement for the macbook (with a touchbar in it) and it was also from late 2017, so would it work?

Sadly, the Fn model is very different internally from the TB model so no you can’t swap out the uppercase to get the TouchBar.

To clarify one thing both offer TouchID via the power button.

Thanks for the answer! But one thing to note is that this macbook pro doesnt have touchid, it has a physical power button, i went to apples webaite and it daid this model doesnt include touchid, but other than that, thanks for the answer!

one thing is what if i swap out all of the internals to the new one, like a whole new body for the macbook, would that work?

@joshzek - Your right! Both the 2016 & 2017 Fn systems don’t have TouchID. I was thinking about the TouchBar systems.

Sadly, there is no way to put your systems internals into a TouchBar system. They are very different internally review the iFixit Tear Downs to see your self.
