Home button requires much more force

The home button on my iPhone SE (1st gen) requires a lot more finger pressure to work after screen replacement. Am wondering why and what can be done to fix this problem.

Didn't install the bracket under it properly, or the button clicker broke.

Hi

Usually this is caused by one of 2 things

1)as others have previously said, the bracket could be loose

Or

2)the little spacer could have flattened down ,if you glue a little bit of plastic where the home button clicks(on the bracket not the home button)

That should help it,just adjust it to what you think (less plastic means more travel, more plastic means less travel)

Hopefully this helps

Any questions please ask

Thanks:-)

Hi Duane,

I ran into the same situation on a 5C that I did a screen replacement on; afterwards I could barely get the stupid home button to work at all. Turns out I had knocked off the little spacer that concentrates the button press in the center of the metal dome and saw the exact same problem you are having. The picture below has a arrow pointing to the part I knocked off.

My solution was to take a small piece of rubber and glue it in place of the missing spacer. After that, the button worked perfectly again. So yeah, you'll have to open up the phone again and find something to use as a substitute, preferably rubber if possible. Make it about the same size, but the shape isn't critical; mine was square originally and my little piece of rubber worked fine. Try to make it about the same height as the original; it may take a little experimentation, but it'll be obvious when it's working right.

As Jerry said, check the nipple is still there. Also check there is a tiny metal nipple on the underside of the bracket. If not and just a hole or an indentation then you need a new bracket. The bracket can only fit one way, make sure the flat section goes where the cable comes from the button. Hopefully looking at it you'll see what I mean.
