Have to echo @strongbow's suggestion; there are only two connectors for the LCD, so unless the motherboard got messed up during your swap, it's got to be one of those. I believe this is the one he's referring to.
And the other one is here, as you know.
Most common mistake I've seen is not getting that wide ribbon cable fully seated. Lift the latch and make sure both of the little tabs on either side of the ribbon cable are butted up even against the front of the connector where it slides in. While holding it in place, lock down the latch. Make sure the other connector is also in all the way and even on both sides.
Before you button it back up, reattach the battery and try it again to verify whether it works or not.

Looking from the back, on the left side below the card reader is a small ribbon about 5 or 6 mm wide. Remove it then put it back in making sure it is all the way in and fully seated and then try it,

When you say you replaced the shell, it may be helpful to know exactly what that entails, or what parts you needed to remove or disconnect, since the housing isn’t one solid piece.
I would also check and see if you’re getting an image, but backlight isn’t on. If you shine a flashlight at the display can you see anything?
