psp 2000 series repair guide steps

I have a psp 2001 series with a UMD disk drive with a worn out laser. Games are no longer being read. There is a guide for psp 2000 umd drive replacement, but there are some steps that I'm not understanding.

1) On step 10, it says to pinch upper arms to dislocate them from the UMD door. The UMD bracket can now be easily pulled out. How do you remove the bracket? The bracket is still secure in the unit.

2) On step 10, it says to gently pry on the left hand side of the UMD door to remove it. How do you remove the door because the door is still secure in the unit.

I have done all steps to step 10 and I'm puzzled.

Hi Justin,

I understand how not every instruction is read or understood by everyone the same way, so sometimes it helps if something is explained in a different way that may make more sense to a given person.

So it might help to look at a different set of instructions that explain the same process but in a different way. There's a guide available over at the French site called sosav.fr that may be worth your time to take a look at.

In particular, I believe step 40 of their guide is trying to accomplish the same thing as step 10 of the iFixit guide. Step 43 shows you how to do the second part of your question.

Let us know how it goes!

Before I wrap this post up, I have one other thing to replace on my psp, which is the battery. The battery that I have is a psp-s110 which is made by sony. The battery info is 3.6 V, 1200 mAh, but I don't see any sony brand psp batteries on amazon. Is there a replacement brand?

@gamekid, to be honest I've generally had no issues with aftermarket batteries in whatever device I'm working on and tend to lean more toward price and availability when looking for replacements, but that's just me. I can certainly understand wanting an OEM genuine Sony battery if that's what you prefer.

Anyway, I didn't have any better luck than you did on Amazon, but my other two go-to sites are eBay and AliExpress, both of which have sellers offering the Sony brand replacement battery you're looking for. Of course, the eBay listing won't be around long term, but for now here are the two most promising listings I found.
