Black screen + fans at a max

Hi,

If anyone can help me with a Macbook Air (2012, 5,2) please

I turn it on, no startup chime, just black screen and fans ramping up. Then somehow, after numerous restarts, and various key combinations, I managed to get into recovery and got it to instal Lion. Everything was running great.

Turned it off for the day, next day, the same thing, black screen and fans at a max. What is causing this and what can be done? Please help.

things I tried with no success:

- SMC reset

- PRAM reset

- plugged an external monitor

- Safe mode

So if I’m understanding this correctly,

One of the thermal sensors is absent causing the fans to be at maximum speed.

try holding a light up to the display (with it on) and see if there's anything there,

If you can’t fix it I can take a look, and try to fix it,

Or I could buy it off you.

Good Luck!

Hey @beanman56, thank you for taking the time to reply. Don't know if it's the sensor, I could run it normally when I installed Lion which took a couple of hours, if it was overheating it would shut down I assume. When I turned it on the next day, it was black screen + fans at a max.

Sounds like a CPU problem, Most likely from overheating, which requires a new logic board, I can buy it off you if want, replacing the logic board is difficult, I could fix it for you though. For low price
