Why does my screen look like this?

Hey.

I have this macbook (Not my own but a friend's) where the screen looks like this

He told me that there hadnt been any physical damage on the screen but he did spill some liquid so he thought it would be that. Does anyone have an idea what part has been destroyed.

Thanks in advance

Now i tried to use my external monitor but no signal is sent to the monitor it looks like. Could the liquid damage also be reason for this

My guess would be that the spilled drink damaged components on the TCON board, which is connected to the display by a host of flex cables. Or got into the eDP connector (which carries signals from the TCON board to the actual logic board) itself. More than likely that's going to require a new display at the minimum, since the TCON board is part of the display assembly, and is not easily replaced. Most of the flex cables which transmit signal to the display are soldered to it, hence why it's not an easy part to replace. And the cables themselves may also have sustained damage.

TL:DR this is more than likely a new screen sort of situation, or it's going to require repair which needs microsoldering level skills and a lot of care (repair of the TCON board is doable, but tricky since it's very easy to melt the flex cables and you need to desolder shields just to get at the components here).

It looks like your friend's drink damaged the LCD cable.

Okay do you know if that is easily replaceable? And where i could buy a replacement cable?

@Tobias kjeldsen Unfortunately, these are fused together. There may be a way to separate them, but I don't know of one.
