iFixit Battery not charging

After replacing my old battery with a new iFixIt Battery the new battery started to charge, but after 5-10mins the charging stops. While charging works the estimate on remaining charging time is over 10hrs

I thought my old old charger was defective, too and not able to fire up the new battery, so I got a new 85W Apple Original MagSafe 2 charger. The new charger is still not helping with the battery.

I got the battery with 23% and was able to load it to 51% over the course of 5 days.

I tried multiple SMC and PRAM resets, but as much as I can tell, these resets were not effective. Changes to the battery settings were not reset after SMC reset. The MagSafe LED did change from orange to green after the SMC, but all other settings (loudness, keyboard backlight, …) didn’t change/reset after SMC or PRAM reset.

I also cleaned the MagSafe Charger Port, the pins look clean to me.

Please find Coconut Battery Screenshot and System Report attached.

When charging Battery Health indicates a 3.5W charging. See 2nd screenshot.

Edit:
[strike]I feel the battery keeps on charging while I have apps running that are “using significant energy” per the MacOs Battery indicator in the menubar.[/strike] This has not proven to be correct. Instead the more I’m using the MacBook the longer the charging will go on for. While active use of my MB, especially using the TrackPad, the charging will continue. While I was typing this text, the Watts dropped to 0, before I was browsing the web using Safari and the charge continued.

I also ran the OS Diagnostic StartUp with no issues reported.

Standing by for further information! Any help highly appreciated!

Edit 2:
I also deleted the NVRAM through Terminal nvram -c

I’m thinking the systems charging logic is in trouble ;-{

This will need deeper diagnostics as explained by Louis here: How cheap eBay batteries DESTROY Macbook logic boards!

Thanks for your reply Dan! You appear to be the battery professional in this board. I read a lot of your comments before sending in my question.

I've watched the video you send. Louis seems to be a very entertaining person, but I'm not sure what you are recommending here. Do you think I should multimeter the resistors on the logic board? I don't have a multimeter on hand right now, I could try that later.

What confuses me is that a faulty resistor shouldn't really just let the battery charge for a couple of mins and then out of a sudden stop the charge. At least not when all other parameters are stable.

I'm was using my MBP for about 40mins, and the charger was holding about 3 Watts for the whole 40mins. I was monitoring CoconutBattery the whole time. When I got up for a quick break, within 3mins of not touching the MacBook charging dropped to 0W. Now I'm typing this and it's charging again.

I'll add this section to the initial post.

@dev_x3ro - Without deeper inspection and maybe desoldering the chip if the issue is a cold solder joint its hard to say if the resistors are damaged or not without measuring.

Sadly your symptoms are related to the charging logic not the battery. And as Louis explained the Knockoff chargers are the cause! I've had to replace quite a few resistors and resolder the chip as well.

It sounds like you're entering into deep water, do you have the tools and skills to fix your system.

What do you mean by knockoff chargers? I'm using a original Apple Charger 85W and a iFixIt Battery. I thought IFixIt Batteries are a good quality?

@dev_x3ro - Sadly Amazon and eBay and a few others have become the shady street hockers selling knock off watches which look spot on for the untrained but are not what they claim!

As you can see its a big problem! Other than buying directly from Apple I even can't tell any more just looking at them as the've been getting better!

In your case I'm suspecting you have a cold solder joint or something spills wetting the area.

Huh, it looks like my comment wasn’t send.

That’s for your insights Dan. Appreciate the efforts! I visually inspected the logic board and I can’t seem to find any cold soldering/black soldering.

I guess I have to wait until I get my hands on a multimeter.

While I have you, what you say is an average wattage while charging? Looking at the stats from coconut or battery have, the charger is charging with 2-4W, which seems way to low. But I’ve never inspected this on my old system.
