Service Tool for Canon MG2560

I need a service tool that is compatible with Canon MG2560 printer to reset ink overflow error 5B00. I have seen reference to V3800 but cannot find. It would be great if someone could help with sourcing this or equivalent.

I suppose that now that a week has passed without any response I can be pretty safe to conclude that there is no suitable service tool available for this printer. That being the case I will shortly tear down the printer and salvage any reusable bits I find. It seems a shame that the printer is totally serviceable apart from the virtual self destruct time bomb that Canon has built into its firmware.

Since 5B00 is for waste ink, do not reset the counter until it has been fixed. Consumer inkjets like this don't give much room (if any) to budge between the error and reserve pad to account for end user resetting.

This warning (more cryptic variant) is the semi common error - other Canon models will tell you outright. The issue with repair is parts cost, or time. A new set of pads can total out the printer (or it requires a lower base), or time you can spend removing the pads but either way, you often need to do a full disassembly on the Canon models with integrated pads. Before I got a dedicated scanner with an ADF (necessity, thanks to Epson “security updates” - aka clone cartridge blocking firmware) and HP Dynamic Security (not as bad on the LJ series, but the Deskjet and OfficeJet dynamic security machines get more frequent updates), this class of warning was grounds to retire a Canon printer even as a scanner. These often hard stop even for scanning with the waste ink errors!!! It wasn’t a chance I would take willingly. Frankly, I’m happier with my SJ Pro 2500 f1 and Perfection V39* then the printers.
*I have this for high detail album artwork, and photos. Epson scanners are the best of the breed for this, which is why the firmware bombing made me so angry.

If you do not need color, find a mono laser with a descent toner yield on the “full” cartridge (2,500-3,000+ pages) and stop bothering with inkjet printers.

Thank you Nick. I had planned to do a clean of the existing pads, but I didn’t want to do that until I had a service tool (software) that had some chance of successfully resetting the ink overflow counter. As an aside, there does not appear to be any sensor present on the printer that might detect ink level or density in the overflow storage area, and thereby raise the 5B00 alarm. Therefore I can only assume that this error state is triggered by a counter that is simply time based or possibly takes into account cartridge changes or total ink consumption as an indirect approximation of overflow volumes. I have tried a couple of service tools v.3400 and v.4718 which both communicated with the printer but were unsuccessful in resetting the counter.

So unless I can get hold of the v3800 service tool or at least a tool with some claim that it works with this printer I will just trash the MG5600.

@timbergetter Canon got smart a few years ago and moved to cloud based logins (PRO series), or a special license (consumer/Maxify). V3800 looks to potentially be cloud or license based, with 3400 being the last local one :/. You may need to get a 3rd party tool.

It's based on the mL capacity of the pads, with firmware tracking. If you use 5mL and that's 1%, it counts 1%. As far as scans work now for me, I use a ScanJet G4050 and I have a ScanJet Pro 2500 f1 (I got this for the ADF with how cheap it was) on the way :-). I don't miss my used printers as a scanner model. When my MG2120 died, I bought my G4050. Like, seriously the 2500 f1 has a maintenance kit for the ADF. That's the stuff I wish was modular on AIO printers. It ain't cheap at $79, but the fact if my 2500 f1 does need it in the future I can swap it.
