Prohibitory sign when booting after switching to a SSD

Hi!

I replaced the original hard drive on my computer with a Samsung SSD (870 EVO 250 GB) and installed High Sierra through mac OS recovery (internet option). All seemed to work fine until i got a prohibitory symbol on my screen right before i thought everything would be finished. I tried several times to reboot and reinstall with all the different key-combinations that is suggested but the same thing happened again and again. Do you think that the hard drive cable is faulty and should be replaced or might it be that the new SSD isn’t compatible with the computer as this thread on reddit suggests? : https://www.reddit.com/r/macbookpro/comm...

I hope that some knowledgeable person can help me out. Thank you in advance.

To test if it is the HD cable, pull the drive and use a USB 2.0 to SATA adapter to boot from the drive externally.

Thanks again for the answer, i just got an adapter. However i got one more question. Do i have to prepare the SSD in some way to be able to install the OS on it?

You have to format any drive before installing an operating system. In your case use Disk utility and erase it and format it Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
