Flickering touch bar - just replace with part 821-00480?

My 2017 15” Macbook Pro has developed the lovely strobing/flickering touch bar, just a few months after Applecare ended. Will try seeing if I can talk Apple into a keyboard replacement, but if that fails, does anyone know if just replacing part 821-00480 will solve the issue?

Update (09/16/2021)

Well, Apple didn’t want to replace the keyboard when I brought it in and now it’s gotten worse so I guess this is just what it’s going to be until the whole computer fails… But if nothing else, it was an excuse to make a video to add to the ever growing collection of them on YouTube… I think mine has higher production values than most :)

The strobing is often from the video controller which is on the main logic board its’ part of the T1 chip logic.

Thanks - that makes sense to me! So when Apple does a top-case replacement for keyboard/battery/etc, does that mean they replace the T1 as well? Or do they just carry the existing touch bar assembly forward? People seem to say that having the keyboard replaced fixes this issue, but if it comes from something on the main logic board that isn’t part of the top case then it shouldn’t go away when the top case is replaced…

@Andrew - The TouchID button is on its own board held in the uppercase, it's married to your logic board and can't be separated from it.

If Apple repairs your system for a keyboard issue (under the extended warranty) and you don't comment on it's flickering its' possible they would also fix it as part of there QC process. So don't over volunteer info. When you get your system back and check it out see if they replaced your batter (use CoconutBattery take a snapshot of the apps main window so you know what you have now for cycle count and battery voltage) before to hand it over.

As far as the T1 Chip thats part of the logic board. It's a variation of the S2 SIP (SoC) used in your AppleWatch. Did you know you had an Apple Watch in your system! ;-}
