My MacBook Air 13” Early 2014 won’t turn on, but is charging.

My MBA hasn’t turned on for a few years now and it’s been collecting dust ever since. I charged it for a few hours until my charger turned green, so it has a full charge and my charger is functional. I have since decided to try my hand at fixing it myself, here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  • SMC reset
  • PRAM reset
  • Power cycle
  • Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery with a combination of plugging in the power cord and trying to boot it
  • Unplugging the connections under the trackpad (which I believe is trackpad + keyboard)

None of these options have shown any signs of life, no sounds or fans when I try to turn it on. If I can get some pointers on what to try next, I would appreciate it! It’s hard to find information on what to do past a power cycle but I like computers and want to try to fix it myself. Thanks for reading!

A stone dead system is always harder to diagnose as there can be quite a few reasons why it’s dead.

For starters you’ll need to pull out the boardview drawings and schematics for the logic board and using a DVM check the power rails to see which ones are working and not.

Even with that, are you able to understand how the different circuits work? If not maybe the best direction for you is just getting a replacement logic board 13” MacBook Air 1.4GHz i5 with 8GB Logic Board, Apple P/N 661-00063 and here’s the guide MacBook Air 13" Early 2014 Logic Board Replacement
